How to Use the Academic Calendar
Setting Up the Academic CalendarTo set up your Academic Calendar, follow these three steps:
- Enter the year in the designated field.
- Enter the correct day of the week for January 1st and fill in the remaining days in the corresponding order. Use three-letter abbreviations (Sat, Sun, Mon) instead of single letters (S, S, M) to avoid confusion. During high-stress periods, such as exams or assignment due dates, it's easy to become disoriented, lose track of time, or make mistakes. Clear labeling of the days upfront is essential.
- If it is a leap year, refer to the list of leap years provided before March and enter the correct day of the week for March 1st. Fill in the rest of the days accordingly. In a leap year, cross out the row of days above January on March 1st to ensure you only refer to the days above March. This precaution helps prevent mixing up the days.
Adding Style to Your Academic Calendar
To enhance the consistency and style of your Academic Calendar, consider incorporating the following elements:
- Use X marks to cross out all the days that have already passed.
- Place check marks on the days you attended class.
- Highlight the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) column dates in orange. Remember that the days shift in a leap year. Therefore, highlight January and February first, confirm if it is a leap year, and then proceed with the other months. Oh no! Did you forget to account for the leap year day change and highlight all the Saturdays and Sundays? Don't worry; it happens to the best of us. In such cases, use a darker red highlighter to mark the correct leap year Saturday and Sunday columns.
- Utilize circles and green highlights to mark events or important dates. The green highlights will make these days stand out. Include abbreviated notes in the blank spaces and add a detailed record of these events or dates in the Events and Due Dates Table or Assignments, Projects and Exams Table.
